Although Cinco de Mayo observes the Mexican army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, the holiday in America is, let’s be honest, more of an excuse to drink margaritas and chow down on tacos.

If that sounds like the perfect weekend to you, then continue reading to find out about the best Cinco de Mayo parties happening in Northern Virginia.

Why hold Cinco de Mayo to only one weekend? Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is celebrating all month long. It’s partnered with Tequila Ocho and Baccarat to offer $100 Prime Margaritas through May 31. Guests who purchase the drink will take home the special glass it is served in, a Diamant Tumbler, which will be presented in Baccarat’s iconic red box. // 1960-A Chain Bridge Road, McLean; $100 per drink

Hello, Cabo. Bar Louie Stonebridge will be hosting a Cabo De Mayo weekend, featuring Sammy Hagar’s Santo Mezuila from May 3 to 5. Urbano 116 is giving guests three options for celebrating Cinco de Mayo. On Friday, May 3, it will host a prix fixe dinner, offering Mexican flavors with French influences to honor the Battle of Puebla. The dinner costs $95 per ticket, and the menu includes shrimp tiradito, Mexican bouillabaisse, short rib, green apple and more.

On Saturday, May 4, there will be a cocktail class with guest bartenders from Mexico City ($40 per person). The class will cover tequilas and mezcals, their history and how they’re made. Food is included in the price.

On Cinco de Mayo itself, Urbano 116 will release five new tacos at the special price of two for $5. No ticket is required to experience the new menu. // 116 King St., Alexandria; dinner: $95, cocktail class: $40, Sunday: no cover charge
